SAP PPM vs IM: Sometimes IM is the better option
Just prior to COVID my colleague Michael Cate and I co-presented a customer case study on using the Investment Management (IM) module with a custom web front-end to manage capital appropriations.
Our client had an old capital appropriation tool they used to route AFE’s across the organization, culminating in the creation of a WBS structure for controlling the capital expenditure.
Initial thoughts were for a PPM implementation, but it turned out that was too much technology for the requirement. We ended up using the Investment Management module with a web front-end to the Appropriation Request. A simple and elegant solution that was extremely cost effective. Sometimes less is more!
