Year-end Close Best Practices for Capital Projects

Using SAP PS, IM and PPM

The integrated capital lifecycle

It’s late January so by now many capital-intense company running SAP will have completed their capital year-end processing.

Hopefully you are now well underway with new project AFE approvals.

There’s a best practice to closing the year for capital projects in SAP, particularly when running the Investment Management (IM) and / or Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) modules alongside Project System (PS).

I found this old presentation that I delivered this with my good friend and SAP consulting legend Kent Bettisworth back in 2013.

Whilst much has changed in the last 11 years, the learning points are still the same.

  • Learn the best practices for a successful year-end ‘close’ for capital portfolios and projects

  • Comprehend PPM and IM differences

  • Avoid year-end mistakes that ‘break’ next year’s budget reporting
